How to set up and upload driving licence, Aadhaar card on DigiLocker

DigiLocker, a cloud-based app for the public, was launched by the government to keep official documents like driving license, Aadhaar card, PAN card, car registration certificate, educational certificates, birth certificate etc in a Digital form. This has freed the people from carrying around their documents, as they can access the digital version anywhere anytime. The documents on DigiLocker are treated by all government authorities in similar fashion as the physical documents.

The DigiLocker app linked to a person’s Aadhaar number, provides users with 1GB of cloud storage to store their documents. The cloud storage is secured and safe as it uses a 256 bit secure socket layer (SSL) encryption for all the information transmitted.

Moreover, users need OTP verification to access the platform and documents. Here is how users can setup DigiLocker and upload their documents:

How to set up DigiLocker and upload documents

Step 1:

First, you need to either download the DigiLocker app from Google Play Store (for Android users) or the Apple App Store (for iOS users) or simply go to the DigiLocker official portal https://www.digilocker.gov.in/dashboard.

Step 2:

Sign up yourself by submitting your phone number, name, date of birth, Aadhaar card details, email id and other required details. Authenticate your mobile number by submitting the 6-digit OTP.

Step 3:

Now create a username and password for yourself and register your Aadhaar number, along with an acknowledgement that you have given your consent to DigiLocker to use your Aadhaar number to go ahead and sign you up.

Step 4:

After submitting your Aadhaar number, again an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number and Email. Authenticate the OTP so that the platform fetches your Aadhaar from UIDAI.

Step 5:

Your DigiLocker is set up successfully and now you are all set to upload your documents.

Step 6:

Go to the ‘Home’ screen, and select the document issuing agencies i.e, Central government, State government, education, banking and insurance, and others. For example, select the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for a driving license.

Step 7:

Next, select the documents and the app will automatically fill your name and date of birth.

Step 8:

Enter the serial number and click on ‘Get Document’. Save the document appeared on the screen and it’s done.
